AMD chose the annual conference of ISSCC (International Solid State Circuits Conference) to open the curtain on the Bulldozer core technologies that target the new processor servers and high-end desktops. In intnya Bulldozer processor is a "module", which integrate two cores are "inextricably linked" and a slim core processor.
According to AMD, this core has its own L1 cache, but share the high bandwidth of these resources as a floating point unit, L2 cache and fetch, decode and prediction unit to activate the "chip multi-threading (CMT) Intel, by contrast uses an approach called multi-processing chip, which uses a complete individual cores and multi-threading.
AMD says that the bulldozers will run at clock speeds up to 3.5 GHz. These processors will be manufactured by GlobalFoundries with 32 nm process. One module Bulldozer with two cores will accommodate about 213 million transistors and has a surface area of only 31 mm, including L2 cache.
8-core processor next Bulldozer will have more than 1 billion transistors in which the chip will also integrate the L3 cache controller and HyperTransport 3.1. Valencia Opteron future, which likely will be called the Opteron series 4200, will be available with a six and eight cores. While the Opteron 6200, code-named Interlagos, will be launched with the core 8, 12 and 16.
